Tsar Simeon II of Bulgaria is unique, in that, having been a hereditary monarch, he was also elected and served as Prime Minister of his country, 50 years after his abdication. Together with Mihail of Roumania, he is one of only two WW2 heads of state still alive today. He is popular in Bulgaria, where he is known as Simeon Saxe-Coburg-Gotha. He is of the same lineage as Queen Elizabeth II, the King of the Belgians, and the last kings of Portugal. In his ancestry, we see for the first time Louis Philippe I of France, from whom most Catholic monarchs are descended.
